LEGIONS OF YOUNG AND OLD ALIKE CHEER AS THEIR FAVORITE SPY-SPOOF LAUNCHES ITS 3RD YEAR IN AN EARLIER TIME SLOT
"The Man From U.N.C.L.E." returns in color to the NBC Television Network for its third year on Friday, September 16, in a new, earlier time, 8:30-9:30 PM, EST.
The hilarious hour spoof on spies from MGM-TV, starring Robert Vaughn as suave super-agent Napoleon Solo, and David McCallum as the intrepid Illya Kuryakin, has proven such a favorite with youngsters and their parents too that hundreds and thousands of requests has poured in favoring the earlier viewing time.
The third member of the U.N.C.L.E. crew, without whom no episode would be complete, is Leo G. Carroll who, as Mr. Alexander Waverly, runs the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement and issues the assignments that send Solo and Kuryakin off to the remote corners of the world where they do weekly battle against the evil forces of THRUSH.
With the advent this year of another MGM-TV series, "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E..," Mr. Waverly will be doing double cuties, appearing also as commander of the U.N.C.L.E. forces when Stephanie Powers checks in as agent April Dancer on Tuesday evenings on the NBC air.
Both Robert Vaughn and David McCallum were on location in Europe making feature pictures earlier this year during the summer layoff in shooting "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." series. Vaughn, who made "The Venetian Affair" in Venice, and McCallum, whose picture "Three Bites of the Apple," took him throughout Italy and Switzerland, found that their fame as U.N.C.L.E. agents had preceded them when crowds gathered to greet them at airports and railroad stations.
As the third season gets under way, the number of countries outside the United States in which "U.N.C.L.E." is viewed regularly has increased to more than 30.
This new season shows promise of fantastic new gadgets to be added to the catalogue of equipment for U.N.C.L.E.. agents and more hair-breadth escapes for Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin in their brushes with THRUSH. All in all, for U.N.C.L.E.. fans, it means another year of their favorite brand of excitement and way-out adventure.
